I'm interested to know where you've all been on holiday.
Let us know here what your favourite holiday was, and maybe tell us a bit about the things you've done, what it was like etc.
My favourite would have to be the last one in Switzerland.
Switzerland is a friendly, clean country in western europe. It's famous for it's chocolate, time pieces and neutrality.
There are loads of mountains there and it's popular for skiing and sledging.
while I was there, I visited a lot of interesting medieval towns, went to the top of 3 of the mountains where you had a wonderful cold atmosphere to breathe. I also visited several old buildings, like the cathedrals in zurich and st gallen.
I visited the capital and saw the government buildings.
It's very expenseve in switzerland however, and not easy to find people who speak english.
I went to the Dominican Republic with my family and stayed at an All Inclusive Resort. Relaxing on the beach was definitely one of the highlights, but we also got to go on quite a few tours that were included in the package.
I went to England, where I got to sing at many of the famous buildings there. I wish I could remember how to spell them. Lol.
My sister got to go to France, and saw the Mona Lisa up close in the museum.
i've been to florida three times, and to majorca many times. i like majorca best though. very nice and very close to the UK
I like Florida as well, although I haven't seen much of it. I would love to go to one of the theme parks some day.
i love florida but don't care for orlando. As a friend of mine said "hell with palm trees." when i was there tthey had record breaking heat and forest fires. Very nasty and unpleasant. Additionally it's all car oriented so be sure to go with someone who drives.
My absolute favorite vacation spots are key west in florida, and myrtle beach sc.
Hee it goes, been to quite a few places.
1. Malta (small island, or two islands south of Italy). I've been there twice, once for a swim meet, once as a tourist. The mideval feel to the place, the food at the hotel we stayed at (expensive hotel but we went in late fall so prices were good), the people, the languge (English is partly the native language, or as widely spoken, with funny accents, but most people speak it well) and just something about the place that fascinated me.
2. Aruba, been there three times. For a couple of days it is perfect, the island paradies, however it is very small and I think I'd get bored staying there for more than 5 or 6 days. All inclusive there was fun but we had more fun staying at a rented house with a really old car and doing our own thing most of the time.
3. Xel Ha in Mexico. It is a park 3 hour drive south of Cancun, also close to Playa del Carmen. You can float down a river, play with the fishes, swim with the dolphins (although I didn't, and I miht be confusing thisone with another place). For $50 pp you get an all inclusive package and can eat anything, drink anything and explore anything in the park and it is a lot of fun.
4. Paris: Walking around and exploring Paris is awesome. Theonly time we went we stayed at a tiny hotel room at a cheap hotel, no space even for the luggage, which had to be kept in the hallway outside, but it didn't matter, the city was awesome and we had such little time to stay at the hotel, just sleeping at night really. Paris has such cool markets and streets and food and you just feel the culture and history somehow, it is really neat.
5. Lugano (on border of Switzerland and Italy). My wife is Swiss so Switzerland is kind of like our second home really, although I've only been there for a total of a month, but I loved that part of it and really also Zuerich, going out on the lake in a boat with a 6-pack of beer from the supermarket and playing in the water is just so much fun, the street vendors have awesome food, everything is super clean and being there is just a lot of fun.
6. Iceland. It is my home country and I spent 20 years there, but I am still swept away by the magic of it in the summer time, if you go outside the city and do river rafting or just stand out in the middle of nowhere. It is untouched and powerful and you can actually be the only person in a 10 mile radius. Also walking across the big boiling mud fields and feeling the power of the land, its raw energy, is a feeling I think you can't get anywhere else. Sometimes the people frustrate me to no end (apart from my family and friends) and the society has tons of problems, but the land itself is amazing.
7. London: I love the old city, to visit, Camden town is a lot of fun, the food, the variety of stuff on sale, and just hanging out in London is always fun.
8. San Antonio, Texas: The Riverwalk is just so much fun, we try to go there once a year and just spend a few nights, eat, walk around and enjoy the nightlife, there's something magical about Texas and San Antonio in particular.
9. New Orelans, the Frnech Quarter: It is just a really really neat feeling to walk through this place early on a Friday night with a frozen drink in hand. Live music at hundreds of bars and clubs and restaurants or on the streets, have a muffaletta sandwich and just enjoy the place, it is fantastic. Again, would not want to live there, not in that part of the city, but being there is tons of fun.
The typical, New York City and Myrtle Beach are also lots of fun, we live in NC so Myrtle Beach is not really a vacation spot for us, more of a weekend trip place, but it's always fun. In Orlando we've been to Blizzard Beach waterpark and it is amazing, rest of Orlando was so so, it is fun to drive down to Tampa, about an hour drive, to go to the beach there.
Places I want to visit include Costa Rica, Australia, St Lucia, Barbados, Vienna Austria (going there in July), Munich, southern France and Vietnam. Of course it is not like I'd say no to other places, but these are top of my desired list if I were to choose.
Oh, btw, the best 3 restaurants in the world are in Copenhagen (place called Noma), Barcelona and just outside of London (place called Fat Duck), according to Restaurant magazine.
